Inauguré le 8 août 1926 le stade de la Pépinière appelé par extension stade de l'Université, fut à l'origine destiné au Stade Universitaire Lorrain. Entièrement dévoué à la cause du FC Nancy, Marcel Picot, un chapelier installé dans les années trente au centre ville, laissera son nom à l'enceinte après sa mort. Au départ, il n'existait qu'une seule tribune, la partie Jacquet, du nom d'un ancien speaker du stade. Autour des trois autres côtés, les spectateurs prenaient place sur des monticules de terre arrangés en forme d'escaliers. Trois autres tribunes furent par la suite construites. Le chantier de démolition et de reconstruction du stade Picot II est terminé à la fin de l'année 2002. Il offre 20 000 places assises et couvertes. Un autre projet d'agrandissement est prévu, portant sa capacité à 35 000 places.
