Notes Regimental Colour of the 58th (Rutlandshire) Regiment of Foot. These were part of the second colours on the regiment, presented to them in Edinburgh in the year 1841 by Lady Greenock. These were the first military colours unfurled in New Zealand. They were brought to the Bay of Islands, New Zealand, aboard the "North Star" in April 1845, and returned to Great Britain with the regiment in 1858. After they were laid up in 1860 they were presented to the inhabitants of Auckland by Lieutenant Colonel Cyprian Bridge and the Officers of the regiment. The colour originally carried battle honours for Gibraltar, Peninsula, Egypt, Maida, Vittoria, Nivelle, Salamanca, Pyrennes and Orthes. The battle honour for Egypt was already missing in 1909 when Colour Sergeant John Mitchell was photographed with the Colours.
