Description
Français : Fondée au début des années 1860 et émanation directe des Ets Fives-Lille & Cail c'est, à l'origine, un site dédié à la production de matériel ferroviaire et constructions métalliques diverses: essieux et locomotives, charpentes, ponts, viaducs... exportés dans le monde entier.

Au tournant du XXe s., avec le 1er conflit mondial, obus, canons et moteurs d'avion (Hispano-Suiza en sous-traitance), viennent compléter les réalisations givordines. Au plus fort de l'activité, plus de 8000 ouvriers sont employés à l'usine, dont l'emprise s'étend jusqu'au secteur aujourd'hui occupé par le centre commercial Carrefour, à la sortie ouest de la ville.

La paix revenue, Fives-Lille lance une filière de matériel électrique mais, au fil du temps, les activités d'ingénierie-conseil (« livraison d'usines clés en main ») prennent le pas sur la production proprement dite. La transition est opérée début des années 1980, avec la fermeture des ateliers. Seul subsiste le bureau d'études.

Solios, nouvelle dénomination à l'entame du XXIe s., est aujourd'hui un des leaders mondiaux de la métallurgie de l'aluminium.
