Title
Five Neolithic scrapers
Description
English: An assemblage of five scrapers dating from the Neolithic to Early Bronze Age periods, c. 2500-1500 BC.

All five are formed of the same dark grey black flint:

1) Secondary flake, with the surface now patinised to a paler grey shade with some white mottling and iron staining on both faces, and cortex retained at the distal end. "Thumbnail" shape, with flattened distal end and broad arching proximal end. There is abrupt scalar retouch at the proximal end to create the cutting edge. 29.4mm length, 32.9mm width, 9.9mm  thickness, weight 8.48g.

2) Tertiary flake of dark grey flint,, with mottling on the dorsal and ventral faces. D shaped in cross section, "thumbnail" shape but more sub-circular than arc shaped in appearance. Abrupt retouch present, markedly present striking platform. 23.9mm length, 29.1mm width, 7.9mm thickness, weight 5.9g.

3) Tertiary flake of dark grey flint, with a large area of paler grey paina, mottling and iron staining present. D shaped in cross section, larger sub-circular shape with marked dorsal spine. Removals at distal end appear somewhat incongruous, but a clear striking platform is present, as is rather crude abrupt retouch at the proximal end. 28.9mm length, 34.2mm width, 9.9mm thickness, weight 11.15g.

4) A larger secondary flake of dark grey flint, with a very small area of cortex at the distal end. There are large areas of mid to lighter grey patina on both faces and mottling and iron staining present. It is sub-circular in shape and D-shaped in cross section. Abrupt scalar retouch is present. 35.1mm length, 32.1mm width, 9.9mm thickness, weight 15.1g.

5) A smaller and more slender secondary flake of dark grey flint, with a small  area of cortex surviving at the proximal end. Much of the distal end is covered with a paler grey patina, while white mottling is spread across both dorsal and ventral faces. The shape is irregular, possibly originally sub-circular, but now thanks to a large removal or possible break, there is a more pointed appearance to the proximal end. There is a distinct striking platform present at the distal end, and abrupt scalar retouch visible on the right side. 37.1mm length, 23mm width,  5.9mm thickness, weight 7.49g.

Total weight: 48.07g.
