The Fitchburg Furnace stands in a field in Estill County, Kentucky. Built in 1868, this is a double-stack, steam-blast iron furnace. It is one of the largest charcoal-fired furnaces ever built and the only twin stack furnace in the world. Its intricate architectural design places it among the top 25 dry-stone masonry structures worldwide. It now stands as a monument to the historic iron industry of Kentucky.
