| Description |
English: Part of Hartlepool Headland, County Durham. In the foreground is Fish Sands; in the background is St Hilda's parish church. On the left is the end of the Town Wall. The white building on the right is the pub "The Harbour of Refuge" which refers to an ambitious early 19th century scheme to build large breakwaters across the bay to provide shelter for sailing ships in bad weather. The scheme was abandoned, mainly due to cost. |
