"FISH POND" KNOTT'S MINERAL SPRINGS PORTER IND

Date: Circa 1908 Source Type: Postcard Publisher, Printer, Photographer: M. L. Photo Company (#8) Postmark: January 24, 1910, Chesterton, Indiana Collection: Steven R. Shook Remark: Knott's Mineral Springs was originally known as Kimbell's Mineral Springs. The natural artesian spring was developed around 1903 and 1904 with the goal of becoming a health resort. Due to poor capitalization, the resort never fully developed and the effort to make the area a health spa was abandoned.

The following news item is from the January 19, 1905, issue of The Chesterton Tribune:

Porter Pointers. We are going to put on a force of wood cutters and trim up the beautiful groves over at Kimbell Springs. It will be done under the direction of an eminent landscape gardener from Chicago and Uncle Bob Weddell says spring will find the Kimbell Mineral Springs property one of the finest parks and popular health resorts in northern Indiana. If no other company builds by spring Major Kimbell will develop the place on his own account.
