Summary
[edit]DescriptionFirvaldur and Kjogvin rowing boats from Suduroy.jpg |
English: These two boats are from the island Suðuroy, which is the southernmost of the islands in the Faroe Islands. This photo was taken at Jóansøka, which is a local festival with boat race, held every second year in Tvøroyri (2009, 2011, 2013 etc.) and every second year in Vágur (2010, 2012, 2014 etc.) in the last weekend of June, around 24, Sct. John's Day. Jóansøka means Sct. John's Wake. Both of these boats are so-called "5-mannafør", they are for 6 rowers and one coxsvain to steer the boat. The coxsvain can be of the other gender. The boat in the foreground is called Firvaldur and belongs to Froðbiar Sóknar Róðrarfelag (from Tvøroyri, Trongisvágur and Froðba). The black and white boat is called Kjógvin (former Royndin Fríða), it belongs to Vágs Kappróðrarfelag (from Vágur).
Føroyskt: Kappróðrarbátar, 5-mannafør. Báturin fremst á myndini er Firvaldur hjá Froðbiar Sóknar Róðrarfelag. Svarti og hvíti báturin eitur Kjógvin, tað er gamla Royndin Fríða, sum Sámal Hansen hevur smíðað. Tað er Vágs Kappróðrarfelag sum eigur bátin. |
