Summary

[edit]
Description We reach our first halt on the tour- to witness a dance performed by the local tribals. To get to the theatre we need to walk across a small rivulet on a wooden bridge, from where we can get a better view of the quaint wooden houses. Unique traditional style of houses built largely from timber, these houses are typically rectangular and three stories high, though in Ping'An many are four stories and relatively large. Each ascending floor is a little larger than the lower. The shingles, windows and beams are typical of other Chinese building styles. In Jinkeng, there are small dwellings that use the thick bark of trees as roof shingles, but we did not go there or get a chance to view those. (Longji Rice Terraces, near Guilin, China, May 2017)
