Description

First seal pup of the season seen at Yaquina Head this week! Photos:

The first seal pup of the season was spotted April 1, 2015, on the cobble beach at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area.

The first pups are normally born around Mother’s Day, making this harbor seal about a month early, according to BLM staffers and volunteers who monitor the wildlife at Yaquina.

They could tell the pup is early because of the beautiful white fur, called lanugo.

As the email from Yaquina staff said: “Enjoy the cuteness” and please keep an eye out for other young ones this time of year.
