English: Petty Officer 1st Class Aaron Spaulding, the senior medical department representative with Marine Expeditionary Brigade – Afghanistan, stands by the Regional Command (Southwest) logo aboard Camp Leatherneck, Helmand province, Afghanistan, Aug. 20, 2014. Spaulding served with the first Marine unit in Afghanistan during 2001, when America launched the Global War on Terror in response to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Thirteen years later, he is once again in Afghanistan, now serving with the last Marine unit to leave the country in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
