  • Significance: Samuel Burke Burnett wanted to build a house that was a representation of the Texas ranching legacy and he wanted the house to be as grand as the surrounding land. From those dreams came the 6666 Ranch House. Burnett hired Sanguiner and Staats Architects to design and build the home and in 1917 the 6666 Ranch House was built for $100,000. Burnett's purpose for the house was to serve as the headquarters of the 6666 Ranching empire. The house was used primarily for entertaining friends and family during holidays and with its 11 bedrooms there was plenty of space for everyone. Some well known guests of the house were Theodore Roosevelt and Will Rogers. In addition to being a vacation home, it also served as the home to the 6666 Ranch manager and his family. The massive stone that was used to construct the exterior of the house came from the Wichita River bed. Even though the large trees that surround the house make it nearly impossible to see, the magnitude of its presence does not go unnoticed. The 6666 Ranch House remains in use today for these same purposes by the great-great-grandaughter of Burnett, Anne Marion. The house still serves as the full time residence of the ranch manager, Mike Gibson and his family.
