(1 in a multiple picture album) I got to do my favorite this this last Tuesday morning. I left my room at Mammoth Lakes, CA and drove to a spot at the south end of Twin Lakes to wait for the sunrise. It was cold enough that my fingers ached as I waited. Behind me the sky was starting to lighten and the forest was in silhouette. Below me the ducks were gliding on the cold water scavenging their breakfast. All was silent and still. After some time I saw the top of the formation to my right begin to pick up the first gold glow and then the dawn color began to move down the sides of the massive rock to light the trees below. This is the magic time of the day when, for just a quarter hour, the world is painted in a color that can be seen at no other time. You can see why many photographers call it "The Golden Hour". |
