Description First Presbyterian Church, 300 Market Street at West 3rd Avenue, Warren, Pennsylvania, September 2012. A work of the prominent Canadian-born, Cleveland-based architect Sidney Badgley, First Presbyterian was constructed over a nearly two-year span from 1895 to 1896 and - with its stone-block façade, heavy and squat massing, profusion of often narrow round-arched windows, and small rose window with simple tracery, is an example of the then-popular Richardsonian Romanesque school of architecture. Note also the Classical detailing around the twin entrances at the bases of the towers, framed by compound arches and engaged columns with characteristic cushion capitals. First Presbyterian was founded in 1822 by the Rev. Amos Chase, a missionary in the service of the presbytery at Erie who presided over a congregation that at first counted nine members. Its present home is their third, superseding churches built in 1832 and 1866, respectively.
