Summary
[edit]DescriptionFirst Liquor License Issued After Prohibition (27232812156).jpg |
End Of A Bloody Era The "beer wars," the feud between "Scarface" Al Capone, Bugs Moran, The Gemma Brothers and The Untouchables. Bootlegging. Illicit stills & breweries. Bathtub gin and speakeasies. It all ended on December 5, 1933 when the Twenty-first Amendement ended Prohibition which had been in effect since 1920. The Berghoff, opened in 1898, received Chicago's first liquor licenses (one for the bar, one for the restaurant) after the end of Prohibition. They have been issued the city's first liquor license every year since. Contrary to rumor, Schaller's Pump does not have liquor license #1. They have #3. Located at 17 W. Adams St. |
