Dwight L. Moodysaid in Denver, Col. (as pub-lished in the Concord Evenijig Mon-itor), that there never has been somuch interest taken in the Biblesince the world began as now. Dur-ing the last three years there havebeen more Bibles sold than in allthe other 1,893 years. There are no deans, deacons, ves-trymen, or other clergy in the gen-eral acceptation of the word, con-nected wnth the Christian Sciencechurch, and the service and the les-son are identical the world over.The officers of the church consistof th^ Pastor Emeritus, a board ofdirectors, a president, the readers,a clerk, and a treasurer, who, inconnection with various boards, con- duct the work and official businessof the church. All the officers of this church re-ceive salaries except the PastorEmeritus, who declines to acceptany remuneration for her services.

During 1894 the handsome Roman-esque edifice, known as the Motherchurch, was erected in the Backbaydistrict of Boston, at the junction ofNorway with Falmouth streets, at acost exceeding two hundred andtwenty thousand dollars. The Moth-er church, or The First Church ofChrist, Scientist, in Boston, has, inMay, 1900, above sixteen thousandmembers, rapidly increasing, and con-nected with it are the Massachu-setts Metaphysical college, of whichMrs. Eddy is president, and theChristian Science PubHshing socie-ty. The college class-rooms arein the church edifice, and its offi-cers are composed of a president and 272 AMONG THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCHES. a board of education, comprising acorps of teachers who are graduateswith degrees from this college, aswell as alumni from American uni-versities.
