Description
English: This image (taken on 14 March 1919 at Châtelet, Belgium) shows a group of soldiers receiving valuable training in bandaging, as part of their training in first-aid from instructors at the First Australian Field Ambulance, prior to their postwar return to Australia, as part of the academic, practical, and vocational training offered within the formal A.I.F Education scheme, that had been instituted by Rt. Rev. George Merrick Long, Anglican Bishop of Bathurst (former headmaster of Trinity Grammar, Melbourne) in May 1918. The scheme, was designed to equip all members of the A.I.F. with the remedial training, experience, skills, abilities, and/or qualifications that would significantly increase their capacity to re-enter the civilian workforce (often in entirely different professions from those in which they were engaged on enlistment). Second from the right, is one of the instructors: Corporal Hugh Gemmell Lamb-Smith (279).
