Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Firsby curve 2 A Liverpool Lime Street – Skegness charter train rounds the curve at Firsby, on its return journey from the coast. Note the addition of a check rail on the inside curve of both tracks.

When a vehicle negotiates a curve, the wheels on the outside rail try to climb up and over the track. To prevent this happening, a second rail is provided alongside the inner rail of the curve, known as a check rail.

I'm indebted to the signalman at Bellwater Junction Signal Box for his information on this train. https://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/TF4259 https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/446143

The loco was D1916 and it was paired up with 47815 'Great Western' at the rear. (Top and tailed, as they say.)
