English: London fire engines c. 1825. Horse-drawn fire-engines of the County, Westminster, and Phoenix Insurance Companies on their way to a fire are depicted in this coloured aquatint, 51 cm x 76 cm, after the original painted by James Pollard in about 1825.
It is entitled London Fire Engines. The Noble Protectors of Lives and Property. The parish engine is to be seen in the background and another engine is already at work at the fire. Plate 11 from Fire fighting appliances, the descriptive catalogue of the collection in the Science Museum, London. |
