Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built in 1902, this Commercial-style building, known historically as the Commercial Building, was designed by Charles Sedgwick, and formerly housed the Palladium National Life Company. The building features a cream brick facade with banding at the base, an Art Nouveau-style entrance surround with limestone columns and a small canopy along North 1st Avenue, cast iron storefront columns, a shared spiral staircase fire escape with the adjacent Mill City Manufacturing Company Building, and upper floors with minor limestone banding at the window sills. Originally 5 stories tall, the building lost a floor due to a fire in 1958. The building has always housed offices on the upper floors, and retail spaces on the ground floor, and maintains this configuration. The building is a contributing structure in the Minneapolis Warehouse Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
