| Description |
The Finstergrund Viaduct on the line between Probstzella and Lichte is 197m long opened 31 October 1913, since abandoned as the [Finsterer-Grund-Viadukt surviving service north from Sonneberg] only reaches Ernstthal station at 769m above sea level, just south of here. The line was latterly DBAG KBS 564, Sonneberg - Probstzella. on 22 January 1997 the line closed between Sonneberg and Probstzella and also Eisfeld, but there was a brief resumption between the former and Lichte between 26 or 27 Septemeber 1998 and 3 October 1999. More about the network here Since 15 December 2002, the STE, Süd-Thüringen-Bahn has been operating the service between Sonneberg and Neuhaus am Rennsteig via Ernstthal. The present derelict state of the Finsterer Grund Viaductmay be seen in photos by @Schloemener The viaduct built 1910-1912 was also commemorated in a painting on the side of the nearby station of Ernstthal am Rennsteig |
