| Description |
English: Finial on Cross Gates Barn, Cross Gates Lane, St Ives Estate, Harden This has the initials of two members of the Ferrand family and the date 1870. There is a similar one at the other end, without the lettering, and probably two at the back corners. The carved ashlar is in contrast with the workaday hammer-dressed stone of the building, and each one must represent hours of patient work. The upstand will have supported the verge stones, now gone, that cap the gable wall. |
