Summary
[edit]DescriptionFinglasstream.jpg |
English: Close to the confluence of Finglas-stream and the river Tolka were 3 large houses dating to the 19th century. These were Ardstraw House, St. Brendan’s and Lisín. There was also a cluster of cottages (and their out-houses), numbering 5 residences in total.
This was also the location of the junction of Old Finglas Road and Finglas Road. The Finglas Road is now the dual-carriage N2. This national primary road is the route from Dublin city to Derry city, becoming the A5 across Northern Ireland. The area was known locally as Finglas Bridge, and the little village of cottages as Farrelly’s Cottages, with Dowling’s Yard closest to Finglas-Stream. The placename Dowling’s Yard survives today. However it is no longer a pigsty but instead is a car body shop. Dowling's Yard, Old Finglas Road is visible in the photo to the left. |
