Summary
[edit]DescriptionFilling a lake. - geograph.org.uk - 288172.jpg |
English: Filling a lake. Fan shaped areas of good farmland are a common feature of natural shorelines. Here is an example of what can happen next.
The Mill Beck, with help from Sourmilk Gill, has deposited a lot of material in the big lake filling a glacier deepened valley. The fan has grown so much that it has divided the lake into two - Buttermere (right) and Crummock Water (left). The land between on the deposits, is flat and well drained and used to grow winter fodder. |
