5. One of two millstone’s in the park’s museum collections, Dr. Marcus Whitman used this granite millstone for the gristmill he built at the mission site. The millstone had originally been found during the time of the Public Works Administration (circa 1933) but vanished soon after. The millstone was re-discovered years later at the park by archaeologist Thomas Garth in 1949.
