Title
Figurine
Description
English: Cast copper alloy bird figurine probably dating to the Roman period. The object is of a bird, possibly representing an eagle, with wings outstretched. The tail is fan shaped and the edge of one corner is missing. There is a small rivet hole at one side of the tail. The wings are decorated on each surface with linear grooves representing feathers. The grooves are short towards the body and elongate towards the tips of the wings. The tip of one wing has been damaged. The body of the bird is undecorated and the tail is also decorated with linear grooves. The bird has a thick neck and a wide beak. The head is very worn. The base of the object is rectangular in cross-section and has a circular sectioned projection which terminates in a break. The projection sits within a wide groove. The object has a dark green patina and is in very good condition.
