Summary
[edit]DescriptionFigurehead of the ship Ares owned by Tsamados at the National Historical Museum (Athens) on 27 April 2019.jpg |
English: Figurehead of the ship Ares owned by Tsamados. It comes from the 16-cannon brig Ares of the Hydriot Anastasios Tsamados. In April 1825, the ship was blockaded by the Ottoman fleet in the bay of Navarino and its commander An. Tsamados was killed in Sphakteria. The ship, under the command of N. Votsis, managed to escape the blockade. After liberation, it was used as a training ship by the Naval Cadet School for many decades. It was sunk in Salamis in 1921 in a very bad condition. Accession Number: 1444. National Historical Museum of Athens. Athens, Greece. Text: Museum inscription. |
