Description
English: Conceptual linkages between changes in the Earth system associated with the Eocene-Oligocene Transition, 34 million years ago. External drivers were the slow changes in ocean gateways caused by tectonic plate movement, and slow changes in Earth’s orbital configuration. The interactions and feedbacks within the Earth system act on different timescales, which makes the complete sequence of events complicated, but overall these processes resulted in Earth’s Greenhouse-Icehouse Transition. There is a large uncertainty in all links portrayed. Adapted from: Wunderling and von der Heydt et al.
