| Description |
English: Field of (probably) mangold-wurzels, Farnley Tyas On closer inspection, the crop looks like a type of turnip with a red skin on the exposed root. I have since been advised that the plant might be the mangold-wurzel, (Beta vulgaris vulgaris), which is a subspecies of the common beet (Beta vulgaris). This is grown as a cattle fodder and is not related to the turnip. Certainly the leaf looks more like leaf-beet (Beta vulgaris cicla)than the more divided type of leaf of the turnip. |
