o cases the tumour w^as a burrowing myomaattached to the lower segment. In four cases hysterectomy—at four months (Fig. 133), 4i months (Fig. ^34), fivemonths (Fig. 135, Plate XXXIL), and 5I months (Fig.136) respectively—was performed, urgent symptoms havingarisen in each case. In two instances subtotal hysterectomy was performedfor profuse haemorrhage following abortion. One ofthese cases is shown in Fig. 137, Plate XXXIII., as agood example of red necrosis. In five cases conservative myomectomy was done :threeat the fourth month, once at the sixth month (seeFig. 138, page 144), and once this operation was performedas a Caesarean myomectomy at term. In five of the twenty-three cases the tumour wassubmucous. (i) In one of these the myoma sloughed in the puerperiumbut came away without operation ; the patient was gravelysapraemic for many weeks.
