Français : Vue au microscope optique de la forme en Y d’une fibre de filtre de cigarette fumée. Un tel filtre, dans le milieu aquatique, libèrera en 14 jours environ 100 fibres/jour dans de l’eau distillée à agitation lente (2 cycles par s). La plupart sont inférieures à 0,2 mm et se situent dans l’échelle des microplastiques de 0,001 à 1 mm. Mais avant 2023, seules quelques études avaient examiné les effets de ces microfibres (effet physique) dans l’environnement aquatique. D’autres études sont nécessaires pour quantifier leur potentiel écotoxique.
English: A risk for the aquatic environment is the release of loose fibres from cigarette filters. Within 14 days, one smoked cigarette filter releases about 100 fibres per day in slowly agitating, distilled water (2 cycles per s). Thereby, most detached fibres are smaller than 0.2 mm and range in the microplastic scale of 0.001 – 1 mm. But only a few studies investigated the effects of microfibres (physical fibre effect) from cigarette filters in the aquatic environment and more studies are necessary to quantify their ecotoxic potential. |
