Description
Deutsch: Hohenloher Keuper-Feuerstein: Angeschnitten, geschliffen und poliert. Hohenloher Feuersteine sind durch ihre besondere Farbenvielfalt bekannt. Vorkommen: Auf den Keuper-Sandsteinhochflächen der Schwäbisch-Fränkischen Waldberge. Sie stammen vor allem aus den Keuperschichten des Knollenmergels und des Stubensandsteins. Fundort: südlich Schuckhof.

Die sehr harten, mineralischen Steine erhielten ihre intensive Färbung durch in den Poren eingeschlossene geringe Mengen von oxydierten Metallen wie Eisen und Mangan. Die gelb gefärbte Matrix in diesem Stein zeigt vorwiegend verkieselten Algenkalk.
Unscheinbare Feuersteine von 5 bis 20 cm sind an der Basis von erodierten Lehmschichten, Schottern und Sanden bis zu 10% angereichert; sie kommen auf den so genannten Feuersteinfluren der Hohenloher Ebene zwischen Schrozberg – Blaufelden - Reubach – Wallhausen durch Bodenverwitterung, „Auffrieren“ und landwirtschaftliche Bodenarbeit am häufigsten an die Oberfläche.

Keuper-Feuersteine sind wichtige Belege für danubische Flüsse des Pleistozäns, die schließlich von den rheinischen Flüssen Kocher und Jagst angezapft wurden.

English: Flintstone from Hohenlohe (high plain in northern Baden-Württemberg, Schwäbisch Hall (district)). The flint was cut, ground and polished, hence shining in brilliant colors, as flints originating from sandstone of Keuper strata in Hohenlohe often do.
Flintstones are a very important trace of braided danubian rivers of pleistocene age, that were captured by the rhenish rivers Kocher and Jagst.
