| Description |
I am on a pedestrian bridge, very close to Santa Lucia train station (marked as "Ferrovia" on street signs). To the right of the train station stands Santa Maria di Nazareth, a small cathedral. It is a busy Grand Canal scene - a water bus is arriving at a bus stop, while several water taxis are parked in front of the cathedral. Only in Venice would all vehicles - buses, taxis, delivery trucks, and else - be boats. The next stop on the Grand Canal water bus is Piazzale Real, and it is the only place in Venice proper where road vehicles can come in, for the residents' communal garage and a bus stop for land bus services to the mainland. The following stop is Tronchetto, where my Mercedes-Benz is parked, but it is a modern artificial island and does not count as Venice proper. |
