Summary

[edit]
Description Luigi Chinetti requested a special open car for the U.S. market; the result was the 250 California Spyder. Only nine of the 50 Long Wheelbase California Spyders had special light-weight alloy bodies; even fewer cars had an engine with competition features and an outside fuel cap such as this car. Sold new to privateer racer Bob Grossman, it was first raced at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans, where Grossman and Fernand Tavano finished 5th overall and 3rd in class. Grossman then raced the car in 1959 and 1960, taking many class wins and podium finishes.
