Das angebotene Gemälde ist beim Schweizerischen Institut für Kunstwissenschaften als eigenhändiges Werk von Ferdinand Hodler registriert (Archiv-Nr. 63'516). Wie das ebenfalls zur Versteigerung gelangende Werk "Der Staubbachfall" war das vorliegende Gemälde, das gemäss Werkverzeichnis in die Zeit um 1871 datiert wird, bis 1989 unbekannt. Die Reichenbachfälle bildeten im 19. Jahrhundert ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel für Besucher aus Nah und Fern und wurde von zahlreichen Künstlern als Motiv geschätzt. Der wiedergegebene obere Reichenbachfall (120 m) ist der grösste und eindrücklichste der sieben Kaskaden. |
