Alberta / Montana section of the Canada / US border, Chief Mountain

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: US/Canada border: Montana/Alberta. 1/4 mile west of boundary monument 290 and thus 3/4 mile west of Highway US 89 / ALTA 2 Cardston (Carway) Alberta crossing. Looking WSW from 113d 23'W, 49d N, elev. 1370 m.
  • The border is parallel to the fence and runs thru Ms. DENG Yingyu's belly. If one follows this line, you will find that there is the characteristic border swath of no trees cut in the green hill yonder.
  • To the left is the square topped Chief Mtn. in Montana, elev. 2763 m. 18 km away at azimuth 249 deg. From there to here is all Blackfeet Indian Reservation, Montana. From topo maps one can see the border is 100+ meters south of the current definition of 49 degrees north latitude... a loss for the US here.
