Description
English: The village of Iwol, where this photo was taken, sits on top of a hill. The women are responsible for fetching all the water needed by the village, every day, at the foot of the hill and carrying it in a container (~15lt) placed on their heads. They are also the ones who pound the millet. This explains their physical constitution which is simply magnificent and admirable. The Bédik are a West African population living mainly in the south-east of Senegal, in the district of Bandafassi, near the border with Guinea. They constitute one of the smallest minorities (around 1% of the population). Unlike most of Senegal, the Bédik country is located at altitude.
