Summary
[edit]DescriptionFellows stained glass south aisle window - Church of St Nicholas in Bradwell.jpg |
English: Stained glass window dedicated to William Manning Fellows and Christine Fellows. The church of St Nicholas in Bradwell - south aisle window. St Nicholas' church is located across the road from Woodlands Middle School in Church Walk. A church stood on this site before the oldest church in Great Yarmouth was built but the building link as we see it today dates mainly from the 14th century. Extensively restored in the 19th century, not much has survived from medieval times. The C15 baptismal font is of the typical East Anglian style and has four seated lions grouped around its stem. A 17th-century monument can be seen on the chancel north wall. It commemorates William Vesey, who died in 1644, his two wives and their children. The monument owes its colouration to a group of art students who painted it in the 1960s. Unusual is the altar table and the C17 altar rails are carved with what appears to be putti riding on dragons or sea monsters. |
