A photo from Felicity's unpublished archive (taken by Liz). You might expect that putting up these three photos so soon after Felicity's death would be upsetting for me. But it isn't - quite the contrary, it is a joyful thing to do. In experiencing this I have come to realise why photography has been so important to me throughout my life. When I look at any photo that I took, or one taken when I was present, I immediately re-experience the feelings I was having at that time and place - good, bad, troubling, uplifting, whatever. This goes right back to the very first photo I took with my own camera, at age 7, which is in this photostream at I was so happy on the day these Heidelberg photos were taken (although we were beginning to find out the horrific magnitude of the previous day's bush fires). When I look at the photographic record of my life with Felicity since 1988, despite troubling feelings quite frequently in the early years, the overall trajectory is towards steadily increasing joy and a shared vivid passion for life. |
