Description

Two-third of my way through a 2-week road trip, I left Vancouver and re-entered US for the final stretch back to Los Angeles. And my first stateside stop is the Boeing widebody aircraft assembly plant in Everett, 30 minutes north of Seattle, where I can take a tour (absolutely no photos allowed) and also do planespotting. Dozens of 747-8s and 787s around (plus another 787 not visible - N20904, United Airlines' first 787, in the paint shop).

Once assembled and painted, each Boeing aircraft assembled here at Everett must go through at least three test flights before delivery to the customer. Boeing test pilots conduct the first flight, while regulatory authorities (FAA) and the customer conduct the other two. The popular 777, first introduced in 1995, gained a freighter variant in 2009, and FedEx is a major customer; this particular example first flew on 16 July 2012, and FedEx would take delivery a few days after this photo, on 1 August 2012. This is the 1,033rd Boeing 777 built.
