FAXON'S " white house " pansies—Engraved from a Photograph. After almost twenty years of painstaking care ; I am able to offer you, what I believe to be the richest and most magnificent collection of pansies ever pro- duced in this country. The individual flowers are very large, frequently meas- uring three to four inches in diameter ; while the plants themselves are strong and robust. My mixture is noted for freedom of bloom, brilliancy of coloring, perfection of form, and splendid substance. This is the Finest Mixture I have ever been able to produce. Price, per packet, 50 cents; 5 packets for $2.00. Trade packet, for florists and those who wish larger quantity, $1.00; 6 trade packets for $5.00. Ounce $15.00. HOW TO fiDAW PANQIF^ In regard to the cultivation of the pansy, I usually begin making iiv/yy iv ui^un r/troica. plantings of the seed early in February, and continue at intervals through the season. The young plants are treated the same as described for asters, and are transplanted into beds in the garden as soon as the ground becomes dry and warm. Set the plants at least one foot apart each way, more space is better than less, and water thoroughly in dry weather. Pick off the buds as soon as they appear, during the summer months, which will cause the plants to grow bushy and compact, and bloom pro- fusely during the late autumn and early spring months. For late or early spring flowering, sow the seed in August, and plant out into beds in October. Cover the plants during the winter with evergreen boughs or other coarse material. The pansy delights in a deep, moist, cool soil, enriched with plenty of well-decayed cow manure; a partially shaded situation is best for pansies. Thev will not do well under trees, but in some location where the sun strikes only part of each day the most satisfactory results can be obtained. OUR SPECIAL INTRODUCTION OFFER FOR 1900.
