Summary
[edit]DescriptionFather Lacombe Chapel (14982361240).jpg |
The Father Lacombe Chapel is one of the earliest missionaries in Alberta. Fascinating history about their pioneering ways and influence that they had. I'm not a religious person myself, but can appreciate their hard work and struggles as blacksmiths, carpenters, etc. Father Lacombe himself was instrumental in the construction of the first trans-canada railroad by CPR. On this visit, we were lucky enough to see the crypt beneath the current church where Bishop Grandin, Father Lacombe and Father Leduc are buried. The cemetery here have a section for Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, so quite a few notable early missionaries may be buried here. Very interesting to hear about the people that schools and towns are named after. |
