This drastic remedy has much torecommend it. The adjacent parts swell soquickly as to contract or altogether occludethe opening; a water cushion is formed betrweenthe skin and the breached capsular ligament,and the pressure within is helpful. Later on theabsofption of the swelling is aided, and anotherblister may be quite the right treatment. Noprobe should be used, and rest should be obtainedby slings during the constitutional disturbancethat follows. In most cases a permanent enlarge-ment is left after the anirrfal recovers themobility of the joint, but he may continue to bea good worker for years. Blistering an injuredmember seems at first sight revolting, but thesuccess of the method fully justifies it and reallyreduces the sum of suffering as calculated over thewhole of the probable period of incapacitation.
