xtending intothe rectum and genitals. Such white animalsonce had pigment cells in the dapple or flea-bittenparts, but in old age or even mid<lle age theymigrate and collect together ae these melanotictumours. I liave not seen a genuine one in anyother coloured horse, but dogs with any blue intheir coats are liable to pigmentary warts on theskin. There is, too, a white heifer disease. True itis sometimes met with in very light roans orpartly white with light shades, but so well recog-nised has the disease of the womb been forgenerations that it has always been known as white heifer diseii,se. In former times whitelegs in horses were objected to as more liable togi-ease, cracked heels, chaps and weak hoofs, butthe show hackney men, desiring the flash ofwhite stockings, have well-nigh bustled us out ofthis olo-founded belief. White rats enjoy the distinction of being almostimmune to anthrax, inoculation generally fail-ing with them while infecting the blacks andbrowns and odd colours.

The annual show of the Peterborough AgriciJ-tural Society was held last week, opening oniuesday and finishing on Thursday. Last year therewas a record attendance, and tlie Society did well.-1 his year it has been extremely unfortunate in theweatlier, the opening day being particularly dull, depressing and wet, and the yard was quickly cutlip by foot and other traffic. The judging pro-gramme, however, was carried through, and theshow as a whole was quite up to the Peterboroughstandard, although in some of the classes we haveseen larger entries. StUl, the quality- was excellent.Ilie strong features of the exhibition were theHunters and the fehires. There were no sheep, butLJie cattle were representative, and the pigs includedwinners at the Darlington Royal. SHI&E H
