Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Farahnaz Tafreshi earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Art University, Tehran, Iran in 1993 and OCAD University, Toronto, Canada in 2011 majoring in Drawing and Painting. Post-graduation she gained valuable experience and insight as a participant in OCAD University’s 2012 Florence, Italy program, Master of Art and science, and Ongoing PhD in Leadership and Policy from Niagara University USA. She has received several diplomas and workshops in sculpture, photography, silkscreen, digital painting, perspective, special effect and prosthetic from Iran and Canada.

Ms. Tafreshi’s art works have been exhibited at public and private galleries in Iran, Europe and North America. While working independently as an artist, she has been engaged in teaching art at college and painting scenic backgrounds for television as well as running a silkscreen printing house and working as a gallery director. Her work draws both from the deep well of her culture’s long history and from her life experience in the midst of the political and social changes; in her paintings, she wishes to transcend the sadness of politics and show a beauty, richness and hope for the future. Over time, her work has evolved to reflect how her attitude towards life has grown to embrace self-expression and the emotional meaning of human relationships, while remaining true to the events and upheavals she has witnessed. Many of her works had distorted because of the subjects of her work on politic, revolution and war where she pictured what she was witnessed.

During 28 years of her experience as independent and professional artist she has worked about 400 pieces big painting which showed to the public and privet galleries and mostly sold to privet collectors. Her current body of work is heavily influenced by the experience of traveling and living in Europe, North America and United State. In her recent abstract action work, through the use of color, line and composition, she has developed a visual language punctuated by movement that is her expression of these emotions.

Author Farahnaz Tafreshi

There is a connection between the physical self, the mind, and our feelings, which remains unspoken. In the same way that bodies have a language, so do paintings. Through the use of color, line and composition, I have developed a visual language punctuated by movement that is my expression of these emotions. I depend on the way I feel to communicate my emotions at the moment of executing a painting, to create a dialogue with the viewer. My paintings are built up from layers of observed movement – they come from life, my imagination and my memories. Abstract Expressionist and Action painting techniques are strong influences in my work. I see the canvas as a space for my gestures to communicate emotion, authentic and free, and for the viewer to participate in the formation of meaning. My interest is more than aesthetics; my paintings attempt to express emotions that I hope can be felt by the viewer.
