Summary
[edit]DescriptionFalmer Station - geograph.org.uk - 521545.jpg |
English: Falmer Station The original station was built to the east of the village in 1846 but was moved to this site in 1865 at the insistence of the owners of Stanmer House. The station building was rebuilt in 1890 and served a sleepy village until 1963 when passenger numbers increased due to the siting of the University of Sussex. Since then that university has expanded and another university to the south of the line has been built. The siting of a new football stadium 5 minutes walk to the east should also see more passengers use the station. The former station master's house to the left is now lived in whilst the ticket office remains staffed and in use. The path in the foreground leads to the underpass on the A27. |
