Summary
[edit]DescriptionFalling Spring Falls, VA (15241108307).jpg |
This beautiful display of surface water are the Falling Spring Falls in Falling Spring Falls Park, Virginia. It is a spectacular waterfall with massive tufa deposits at the bottom. According to the park, the falls as seen today are not in the original location that Thomas Jefferson saw in the 1700's. It was moved by the Ohio C. Barber Fertilizer Company to mine fertilizer. The original falls fell 200 feet (~61 meters) into the valley below. After they were relocated the falls were only 80 feet high (~24 meters). The falls are now owned by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. Photo credit: Alan Cressler (acressler on Flickr).
