Summary

[edit]
Description This little Victorian Fairytale Cottage-like house is located between Knox Street and Fairmount Avenue in Cincinnati’s South Fairmount neighborhood, atop Knox Hill. Constructed in the late 19th Century, the Italianate-style House has a beautiful and exquisitely detailed porch, which is surprisingly similar in appearance to the porch of the old Fairmount Seminary building that once stood up the street after it was converted into the Cincinnati Schützen Verein, a shooting club that was associated with many prominent historical figures, including John Hauck and A. Dieterle. The house also is notable for its corner tower on the southeast facade, terminating the porch, a feature that is very uncommon in local Italianate architecture. I would guess that this house may have been constructed as a vacation cottage for a wealthy German-American family that was associated with the Schützen Verein, like many of the other historic buildings on the hill of the time period, but I do not have the time to verify this theory. Today, this house is pretty well-kept by the owner, whose nephew I ran into while taking a picture of it. Being one of the most interesting and notable buildings on the hill, my hope is for this house to be restored and preserved when the area begins to see new development and investment flow in.
