This diversion and dislocation of thetraffic was found to be an intolerable nuisance ; consecpiently, inafter times, under similar circumstances, the public authorities in-sisted on temporary roadways for at least a portion of the width ofthat affected. The cost of this was considerable, amounting some-times to 5 shillings per s(;uare foot.
