house at Fremont,about the middle of the line, contains four alternating-current gen-erators, direct connected to 1,750-horse-power Westinghouse steamengines. Current is transmitted at 16,000 volts to six sub-stations,-which are combined with passenger and freight stations in order to cutdown the cost of attendance. The high-tension transmission wires arecarried upon the poles supporting the trolley brackets. The roadbed,partly upon private right erf way and partly upon public turnpike, isconstructed for speeds exceeding 40 miles per hour. In preparing fora through service between Cleveland and Toledo, a series of experi-ments are being made by the Lake Shore Electric Company with a view•of determining the most desirable motors for the traffic. A cross-coun-try schedule of 35 to 40 miles per hour has been established and aspeed of over 60 miles per hour has been maintained for short dis-tances.
